Japanese government commits $5 billion to accelerate AI research and development across industries.
The Japanese government has announced a comprehensive $5 billion investment plan to accelerate AI research and adoption across key industries, aiming to position Japan as a global AI leader.
The five-year plan will focus on four main areas: fundamental AI research, industrial AI applications, AI workforce development, and ethical AI governance. Funding will be distributed through grants, tax incentives, and public-private partnerships.
"Japan has the opportunity to lead in AI-powered manufacturing and robotics," said the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. "This investment will ensure Japanese companies remain competitive in the global AI race."
Key initiatives include establishing AI research centers at major universities, supporting startups with AI accelerator programs, and creating regulatory sandboxes for testing innovative AI applications.
The plan also includes provisions for international collaboration, with partnerships already underway with the US, UK, and EU on AI safety research.
